Bridging pension
Choose the level of your bridging pension
The option 'Bridging pension' only applies to you if you retire before your state pension (AOW) age. Will you retire after your AOW age? Then this information about the bridging pension is not relevant for you.
What is a bridging pension?
A bridging pension is a temporary extra pension. If you opt for this, you will receive this temporary pension together with the retirement pension if you retire before your AOW age. Why is that?
If you retire before your AOW age, you can opt for a bridging pension. For example, your total gross income (pension and state pension) remains approximately the same for your AOW age and from the commencement of your state pension. You can opt for different heights of the bridging pension. For example, you align the bridging pension with the AOW pension that you receive from your AOW age. Changes your AOW age after the start of your pension. Then you can choose to adjust your bridging pension and continue it until your new AOW age.
How high is your bridging pension?
Six months before retirement you will receive the 'Almost retired' information package. This contains a reference to the Pension Planner on MijnPPF. There you can opt for a bridging pension yourself. Not everyone receives the same state pension from the government.
The amount of your AOW pension depends on your personal situation and the number of years that you have lived and/or worked in the Netherlands before your AOW age. Check the SVB website for the various AOW amounts.
No bridging pension in the Pension Planner?
If MijnPPF does not state a bridging pension in the Pension Planner, then your pension is too low to purchase a bridging pension.
What are your choices?
You can adjust the level of the bridging pension to the level of the AOW pension. View the SVB website for the choices you can make.
Regeling Vervroegd Uittreden / Bedrijfs-AOW
Do you work at Philips or Versuni and do you make use of the 'Regeling Vervroegd Uittreden' ('Early Retirement Scheme') or do you work at Signify and do you make use of 'Bedrijfs-AOW' ('Company AOW')? In that case, your choices for the amount of the bridging pension are limited. You can only opt for a bridging pension equal to the amount of a 'Single Married AOW'.
Making a choice, how do you do that?
Which level of the bridging pension do you choose? When making your choice, consider the following.
- Which AOW pension do you receive from your AOW age? On the site of the 'Sociale Verzekeringsbank' you can see what your AOW age is and how much AOW pension you will receive.
- Do you need extra income up to your state pension age? For example, because you have a younger partner who is not entitled to the AOW benefit?
- Do you already have another income provision up to your AOW age?
What does this mean for your pension?
Do you opt for a higher bridging pension? Then the total pension income up to your AOW age is higher. But the retirement pension after your AOW age will be lower. This is because you already receive part of your total pension income before your AOW age. If you have made arrangements for a survivor’s pension for your partner, that survivor’s pension will not be affected by your decision to draw a bridging pension. Only your retirement pension is affected.
