ANW-shortfall insurance

For your partner: ANW-shortfall insurance

If you die, your partner will automatically receive a survivor's pension from Philips Pensioenfonds. In addition, he or she may be entitled to an ANWbenefit from the Dutch government. This is a benefit through the General Surviving Relatives Act (ANW). You can take out an ANW-shortfall insurance with us for your partner. This is interesting if your partner is not entitled to a (full) ANW benefit.

Do you need an ANW-shortfall insurance?

Suppose you die. And your partner receives no or a limited ANW benefit because he or she does not meet the legal conditions. Then an ANW-shortfall arises. Your partner will then have less income. You can supplement this shortage with an ANW-shortfall insurance.

Is your partner entitled to an ANW benefit?

In order to claim a full Anw benefit through the government, several requirements must be met. At the time of your death your partner must meet at least one of the following conditions in order to claim an Anw benefit from the government:

  • Your partner is pregnant.
  • Your partner has a child under the age of 18.
  • Your partner is disabled for three months or more, for 45% or more.

Does your partner meet one of the above conditions, but does he or she have an income of his/her own? Then your partner will receive a lower ANW benefit. The Anw benefit stops if:

  • your partner reaches the state pension age;
  • the youngest child turns 18;
  • your partner remarries or starts living together.

What are the benefits of an ANW-shortfall insurance?

After your death, your partner will receive an extra amount from Philips Pensioenfonds every month. Upon your death, this benefit ends on the first day of the month following the month in which your partner reaches the state pension age. In this way a possible shortage of ANW benefit will be supplemented.

How do you take out the ANW-shortfall insurance?

You can take out this insurance if your partner does not yet receive an AOW. In addition, you can only take out the ANW-shortfall insurance within 3 months after you:

  • have been employed by Philips, Signify or Versuni;
  • get a (new) relationship;
  • had a child.

What is the amount of the ANW-shortfall insurance?

As of April 2024, the maximum insured amount is € 21,806 per year. You can also opt for a different amount: € 14,537 of  € 7,269 per year. Do you want to reduce the insured amount? That is possible at any time. You can only increase if you have a child. Please inform us of this within three months of the birth of your child.

How much premium do you pay?

This depends on your age and the amount insured. The premium is deducted from your employer's gross monthly salary. The table below shows the monthly premium payable (as of 1 April 2024) of the ANW-shortfall insurance.

If your partner is younger at that time, we will offer you the option of continuing the insurance at an individual premium until your partner reaches the state pension age. The above premium is based on the maximum amount to be insured.

When does your ANW-shortfall insurance stop?

Your insurance will automatically stop if one of the following situations arises:

  • Your relationship has been terminated.
  • You leave Philips, Signify or Versuni.
  • Your partner reaches the state pension age.
