'Life Certificate'

Do you live abroad and do you receive a pension from us? As you live abroad, possible changes in your personal situation are not directly communicated to us. This is our reason for annually checking your personal details. You can submit your 'Life Certificate' digitally via an app or via a form.

This is how you handle it digitally

Download our instruction and submit your 'Life Certificate' via the app.

You can conveniently take care of things digitally in an app

You can digitally send your ‘Life Certificate’ to us via the app ‘ReadID Ready’. The advantages of this are that you do not have to visit a competent authority with your life certificate to have it signed and you do not have to send us the form by post. To do so you need:

  • a smartphone (it does not have to be your own);
  • an identification document with a chip;
  • the QR code form your letter
  • an internet connection

Your data is safe

We handle your data carefully when using the app. Would you like to know more about how your data is used? Then go to the frequently asked questions below.

Are you unable or unwilling to use the app?

You can also complete the ‘Life Certificate’ on paper. The form consists of two parts. You complete the first part yourself. The second part has to be completed by a competent authority. On the form you can find a list of competent authorities. A competent authority can also issue their own form if the details mentioned by us are featured on the form. You can send the completed form to us at the postal address stated on it. You can also upload it digitally via your personal online portal MijnPPF.

Please note

Do you normally always receive your pension mail digitally? Then you will receive the request to pass on your 'Life Certificate' twice: both via your e-mail and by mail. You only need to respond once.

Frequently asked questions

I want to know more about submitting the 'Life Certificate' digitally via the app.

No, you don't have to. You have the choice of submitting your 'Life Certificate' digitally via the app or via the form.

Yes, we are happy to help you with the use of the app. Please contact our Customer Service for assistance. Of course you can also ask a family member, your neighbors or friends for help.

You do not need to have your own smartphone. You can get help from a family member or friend with a smartphone. There will be no data stored on the smartphone. And the app can be removed from the phone after use.

Is there no one around who can help you with this? Then you can also pass on the 'Life Certificate' by using the form we sent you. Fill in this form and have it signed by an official authority. You can return the form to the postal address indicated on the form. You can also upload a photo or scan of the form digitally via MijnPPF.

A QR code is a sort of barcode that you scan with your smartphone. First download and open 'ReadID Ready' app and then scan the QR code from your letter.

After scanning the QR code, the Philips Pensioenfonds logo appears in the app. For digitally submitting the 'Life Certificatie', we work together with the supplier InnoVolar. of the app. That is why you will see the logo of the app at the beginning.

It is possible that your identification document does not yet have the required chip. This means that the app cannot read the details of your document. Unfortunately, you will then not be able to use the app. You can then submit the 'Life Certificate' by using the form.

If the connection is lost, you can restart the process by scanning the QR code again. Please note: Your QR code is valid for 50 days. After that you can no longer use the QR code. Is your QR code no longer valid? Then please contact Customer Service.

You can only use the app via a smartphone running Android version 6 or higher or IPhones model 7 or higher and iOS as of 13.2.3.

Frequently asked questions

I want to know more about submitting the 'Life Certificate' via the form.

Have the form stamped and signed by one of the following bodies:

  • the Mayor of your place of residence;
  • an authorised person of the municipal authority in your place of residence;
  • the local police;
  • a civil law notary.

In some specific countries, you can also contact:

  • Bureau voor Sociale Zaken (Suriname, Antilles);
  • Justice of the Peace (Australia and some other countries);
  • Commissioner for Oaths (Great Britain);
  • OCMW (Belgium).

Please note: Always check that an official stamp or authentication is provided.

The RNI is intended for persons living abroad who have a relationship with the Dutch government. Are you registered in the RNI in 2022 and did you submit a 'Life Certificate'? In that case you will not receive an invitation from us to submit a 'Proof of Being Alive'. The payment of your pension will continue as usual because we receive the information from the RNI.

It is possible that you will receive a request from us next year to pass on the 'Proof of Living' to us. This will happen if your details are not updated in the RNI in the meantime.

It depends on the situation. If the other organization is affiliated with the RNI (Non-Residents Registration) this is not necessary. Affiliated agencies include the SVB, the UWV and the Tax and Customs Administration. The list of affiliated agencies can be found here. You will not receive a request to send the 'Life certificate' in September.

If you have sent the ‘Life certificate’ to an agency that is not affiliated with the RNI, you will receive a request in September. Then you can send a copy of that proof to us. It will be accepted by us if the proof is stamped/signed by an authorized body in the current year. You can also use the app, of course.

If your pension is less than the minimum commutation value stipulated by law, the Philips Pensioenfonds may surrender your pension. You will then receive a  one-time payment: the surrender value. Do you live abroad? If so, you must also submit a 'proof of life' to us via MijnPPF before the amount can be paid out.

Normally, you will receive this letter in September. If you have already submitted a ‘Life certificate’ to an agency affiliated with the RNI (Registration of Non-Residents), you will not receive a request from us. In this case it is not necessary to send us a ‘Life certificate’. Did you not do this and did you not receive a letter either? Please contact us.

Yes, you will receive a confirmation from us. You will receive a request to send a 'Life certificate' to us.

Frequently asked questions

I want to know more about the safety of the app.

The 'Life Certificate' app uses the so-called "ReadID" technology. This technology allows your proof of identity to be verified with a smartphone. By reading the RFID chip on your identification document, ReadID can verify that this is an authentic identity document and read out the personal information. The verification of an identity document is followed by facial matching: your live photo and/or video of you ('selfie'), taken with the camera of your smartphone, is compared to the passport photo that is on your identification document. In this way, it can be established that the data that has been read really belongs to you and that you are actually alive ('Life Certificate').

  • For identification and authentication of the identification document and 'Life Certificate', the following data is collected: selfie and data that is on your identification document such as; first and last name, date of birth, gender, BSN, the document number of the identity document and passport photo.
  • For technical support of the app, data is collected such as; IP address, unique identifier that is not directly traceable to you. This code is generated by the provider of the app to, for example, identify the device you are using (this code cannot be used to identify other user activities).
  • To improve the quality of the use of the app, data is collected such as; type of phone, Android/iOS version, what type of identity document was scanned and read and whether that was successful, and the number of times the app was used.

The app is provided by Hyfen B.V. ("Hyfen") to our pension administration organization. Hyfen uses third parties to provide the app. Processing agreements have been concluded with Hyfen and the third parties it engages. These agreements stipulate that these parties may only use the data for the purposes of the app and nothing else. These parties thereby use appropriate security measures to be able to guarantee the protection of your personal data in accordance with the AVG and to prevent unauthorized access to your data. Your data is stored in the EU and the United Kingdom (UK). The EU's so-called AVG 'adequacy decision' allows personal data to be stored securely in the UK in accordance with the AVG.

Your personal data will not be stored longer than necessary to digitally submit 'Life Certificate'. After the verification process has been successfully completed, the data will be deleted or anonymized so that this data can no longer be traced back to you.

If you want to know more about how data is collected through the 'Life Certificate' app? If so, please feel free to contact our Customer Service..
