DNB Approval Marks an Important Step Towards NexT Pension
Looking back with Roel Wijmenga and looking ahead with Wim Henk Steenpoorte
Philips Pensioenfonds has received approval from De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) for its implementation plan and has also received the formal approval decision for transferring existing pension entitlements to NexT Pension, the new pension scheme of Philips Pensioenfonds. This marks an important milestone in the preparations for the new pension scheme, which is scheduled to take effect on 1 January 2027. Outgoing Chair of the Executive Board, Roel Wijmenga, reflects on the journey so far, while his successor, Wim Henk Steenpoorte, looks ahead to the next phase.
Outgoing Chair Roel Wijmenga reflects on the journey
Roel Wijmenga became Chair of the Executive Board of Philips Pensioenfonds in 2014. Over the past several years, the new Dutch pension system has been a recurring topic on the Board’s agenda and has required considerable attention from the Board.
Roel: “Preparing for NexT Pension has required intensive collaboration, patience and diligence over the past few years. Throughout this process, the social partners, the Board, the Accountability Body and the supervisory authorities have all been involved, each from their own role and responsibility. There was a positive atmosphere and a strong commitment from all parties involved. Thanks in part to this, we received DNB’s approval well ahead of the planned transition date. This confirms the care and quality with which the process has been carried out. It is rewarding to look back and see that a solid foundation has been laid for the next step. For me, this is a fitting moment to hand over the chairmanship to Wim Henk Steenpoorte after nearly 12 years.”
Successor Wim Henk Steenpoorte looks ahead
As of 1 July 2026, Wim Henk Steenpoorte has taken over as Chair of the Executive Board of Philips Pensioenfonds. With his many years of experience in the pension sector, broad expertise and practical approach, he is a strong successor to Roel.
Wim Henk: “With DNB’s approval of the transition to NexT Pension, a great deal has already been achieved. It is an excellent starting point for the next phase of the transition. My thanks go to Roel and all colleagues who have worked so hard to make this possible. An important period now lies ahead of us. The coming months will focus on preparations for the implementation of the new pension scheme. A key condition is the transition of the pension administration and investment portfolio to the new scheme. Without a controlled and carefully managed implementation, the transition to NexT Pension cannot take place. The months ahead will therefore remain challenging. At the same time, clear communication with all members remains important, as many things will change. I look forward to contributing to this effort and continuing to work together towards a smooth transition to NexT Pension and the further development of Philips Pensioenfonds in the years following the transition.”
